Why believe in God?

Whenever someone hears that I am an atheist, they tell my parents “See told you not to allow him study Engineering, all Science students leave their culture behind.” and blah blah.

I am lucky to have my Mom understand and allow me to believe in whatever I want, even though she is a believer from the bottom of her heart. But my reasons for not believing in God is not just some random logic.

First let me make myself clear, I do not by any means mean to say that those who believe in God are stupid or blind. I will explain everything and I’m quite sure it won’t offend any soul but still I am sorry if I do.

So I once use to be a believer of the existence of God. But recently I realized something. I found myself getting pulled back because of my belief while its suppose to do the opposite. Most of us believe in God to be someone kind and all mighty. We believe that if anything goes wrong he/she will protect us, and so it gives us a sense of relief and emotional support at the time of adversity. God is there and he’ll save us for sure.

And this thought process is absolutely understandable. If you think God gives you strength to take the next step and keeps you moving forward even when the world around you is crumbling down, then I stand with you. No matter what someone says I believe that God is there for you and you should keep moving forward.

But that’s not the case for me. I feel like, believing in God makes me loose confidence. When I assume that there’s someone who will hold me if I fall and when it doesn’t, that hurts way more then falling without assuming any help. When I assume that there’s no one to hold my back and no one to lean on if I fail, only then I can go all out with what I have got. Win or lose it’s all on me.

No fear of loosing anymore, because I never had an option apart from winning and loosing. No chance of disappointment what so ever.

So that’s why I decided to not believe in God but I do respect the opinions of those who do. I think God’s existence shouldn’t be the basis to believe or not believe in him/her, it’s just what gives peace of mind to us is what we may choose.
